Wayne Rooney has said he has a ‘feeling’ about Kobbie Mainoo and the Euro 2024 final as England prepare to face Spain.
Mainoo has been one of the biggest discoveries of this summer. He was not used much in England’s opener against Serbia, coming on in the 86th minute.
He did not play in the 1-1 draw against Denmark, but started against Slovenia, Slovakia, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
The 19-year-old midfielder, who came off the back of a fantastic season with Manchester United, is likely to partner Declan Rice in tomorrow’s (Sunday) final.
And Wayne Rooney has confidently said Mainoo will score in Sunday’s final.
“I have a feeling about Mainoo and the final, that he will score and prove to be decisive.”
“If you think about him in this competition, he has gone into some good positions in attack and I think Spain will do the job closing down the spaces for Harry Kane, Foden, Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham.”
“But it will allow space for a midfielder to come in from the second plan, and Mainoo will manage to score a goal,” said Rooney.
The selector Southgate also spoke about the impact Mainoo had on England, who said that the things the star of the ‘Red Devils’ is doing are extraordinary considering his age.
“I think all his performances have been outstanding, especially when you consider his age. We haven’t had a player like him until now,” Southgate said./Football Match Up/
