The decision is made, UEFA officially informs Girona if they can play in the Champions League

Last season was sensational for Girona, who managed to finish third in La Liga – securing their first ever Champions League qualification. However, there were doubts over their ability to play in the competition, due to their association with Manchester City.

Both clubs are owned by City Football Group and UEFA rules state that two entities owned by the same company cannot compete in the same European competition.

This means that important structural changes had to be made in Girona to appease the governing body.

These changes were made according to the newspaper Marcahas been enough to satisfy UEFA, as the Club Financial Control Body has officially given Girona permission to compete in the Champions League in the 2024-25 edition.

The case of Girona and Man City was not the only one that was evaluated by UEFA. Manchester United and OGC Nice were also under the microscope, as both clubs – part-owned by INEOS – are set to compete in next season’s Europa League.
