Legendary former Milan midfielder Zvonimir Boban had some complaints about his former side after Tuesday’s Champions League defeat against Liverpool and was particularly upset by the club’s decision to sell Sandro Tonali to Newcastle last summer.
The Reds were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool at home on Tuesday night. Paulo Fonseca has just one win from his first five competitive matches in charge of the team as they face Inter at the weekend.
Boban was particularly perplexed by Fonseca’s midfield selections. He asked the coach about his decisions live on Sky Sport.
“Reijnders is not a player who plays number six, but eight. Loftus-Cheek is not a number ten, but an eight. Can’t think of playing 4-3-3 with those two together? Are you thinking of making changes or continuing like this?”, the Croatian asked the coach.
Boban later questioned the club’s decision to sell Italian Sandro Tonali to Newcastle last summer.
“Milan sold Tonal, their best Italian player and a player who was really attached to the club. To see him leave Milan is a shame, these things have consequences”.
“He rejected Juventus, who had offered 42 million euros to Bresician, but he decided for Milan: These are the values you should never lose,” declared Boban. /Football Match Up/
