Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has drawn shocking comparisons between left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi ahead of the new season.
During a recent interview with ESPN, the former Real Madrid midfielder was asked to describe his Gunners teammates using one word.
When asked about the former Manchester City defender, he replied: “Messi”.
Zinchenko, who joined the Gunners in a €35 million move from City in the summer of 2022, was criticized a bit for his performances last season.
The 27-year-old started 24 of his 35 appearances in the competition, scoring one goal and providing two assists along the way.
In the 2024-2025 season, the Ukrainian representative may suffer a drop in Mikel Arteta’s selection at Arsenal.
He is likely to feature as a back-up for Riccardo Calafiori, who moved from Serie A side Bologna in a move worth up to €50m earlier this summer. /Football Match Up/
