Mahrez refused to leave the penalty to Ivan Toney – the Algerian then missed from the penalty spot

Riyad Mahrez denied Ivan Toney the chance to score his first Al Ahli goal – only for the former Manchester City star to miss from the penalty spot.

Toney left Brentford to join Al Ahli for €50m, with the move officially confirmed earlier this month.

The Saudi Pro League opted to sign the 28-year-old instead of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, with whom they agreed terms before changing the terms of negotiations with the Italian side.

Toney made his Al Ahli debut on Saturday, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr side.

But he had the chance to score his first goal, from the penalty spot, during the Asian Champions League match against Iranian side Persepolis on Monday.

However, Mahrez decided to take the spot-kick even though Toney wanted to take it instead.

But the Algerian winger saw his penalty saved by goalkeeper Alexis Guendouz. /Football Match Up/
