The head coach of Cyprus, Temur Ketsbaia, expressed his disappointment with the performance of his players in the 4-0 loss against Kosovo in the League of Nations.
The Cypriots conceded two goals in the first half, while two more were scored in the second 45 minutes.
“It showed us that we were not ready in such a short time to play two games. We were dead, tired and done from the start. You can’t play that way against any team, not against Kosovo, which has quality”, declared Ketsbaia.
“We have to try. When Cypriot footballers do not play in the Cypriot league, what can we expect. The opponents seemed much more ready.”
“The nation always has a future. At some point, a group of footballers may come who will do something better. And before I took over, the national team did not have any success”.
“We are very disappointed with the result and the image we had. When you make these mistakes, you can’t avoid losing. We have a problem especially in this period, when the championships are starting now. The players gave everything they had at the start. We have not fought and we have not been competitive against Kosovo”.
“We weren’t fresh, we weren’t who we should have been. Many things are at fault, I wish there was only one. We also had some absences that could have given something more. You have to play three games in two days and if you are not ready, it shows.”
“It is difficult, there are no Cypriots playing in the league. The national team is not only based on 8 players, you have to have more. The players who did not participate were better on the field than the others who did.
