It is confirmed that the two Barcelona players are only registered until January

Barcelona may have only made two transfers this summer, but both have been recorded on a temporary basis.

The Blaugrana have relied on an emergency injury rule that allows clubs to use 80 per cent of a long-term injured player’s wages, but that means they will have to find money to sign Dani Olmon and Pau Victor in four months next or risk losing them for the rest of the season.

This was confirmed by La Liga president Javier Tebas and General Manager Javier Gomez as they presented the salary caps for the 2024-2025 season from September.

They noted that Olmo and Victor were only registered using injuries to defenders Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen. Those players can still return to play before the January transfer window, but Olmo and Victor must then be registered by other means.

The danger for Barcelona is that players cannot be registered twice, so if they cannot create enough space to register Olmo and Victor without the injury rule until January, then they will in theory not be able to play for the rest of the season.

Barcelona are in talks with sportswear brand Nike over a new sponsorship deal, which could provide them with cash. They are also working to bring in the money from the sale of shares in Barca Vision in 2022, money for which they have not yet received.

General manager Javier Gomez noted that the non-payment hit Barcelona’s salary cap by €70 million, some of which they recouped through sales but have yet to be met. Besides, at that point, they’re only allowed to spend what they’re bringing in anyway. /Football Match Up/
