Is De Bruyne moving to Arabia? Romano gives the latest update

Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Kevin De Bruyne’s future amid reported interest from Saudi Arabia.

The Belgian midfielder has been a key player for Manchester City for many years now, and is arguably one of the greatest players in the club’s history.

Even after missing the first half of last season, he was back in the game, scoring four goals and providing 10 assists in 18 league appearances to help City win their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

However, despite how important he is to Pep Guardiola’s side, De Bruyne’s future is uncertain.

At the age of 33, the Belgian midfielder is nearing the end of his career and after several major injuries he is not able to play as much as he used to.

With De Bruyne’s current contract expiring next summer, City find themselves in a strange situation.

There have recently been reports that Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad had reached a contract deal for De Bruyne, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now rubbished those claims.

On Sunday evening he posted on X: “Saudi sources playing down reports of Kevin de Bruyne reaching deal with Al-Ittihad – said not true.”

“De Bruyne has not been included in City’s traveling squad for their pre-season tour of the United States following his Euro 2024 involvement with Belgium.”

“Al-Ittihad is focused on Moussa Diaby’s deal, which will be signed very soon. The next step for the Saudi club will be the new goalkeeper with talks with Ederson, but not easy,” added Romano.

There have been reports throughout the summer that Ederson could leave City after seven years. Those rumors grew stronger when City’s second-choice goalkeeper Stefan Ortega signed a new contract earlier this summer, but Guardiola is determined to keep his number one. /Football Match Up/
