Football fans believe they now know the real reason striker Cristiano Ronaldo cried at half-time in Portugal’s match against Slovenia on Monday night.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner cried after having a penalty saved by Jan Oblak in extra-time, leading to a 0-0 draw and the winner only being awarded on penalties.
Ronaldo then went on to score Portugal’s first penalty as Roberto Martinez’s side booked their place in the quarter-finals against France.
Football fans have already suggested that Ronaldo burst into tears when he saw his upset mother in the stands.

“She is now not allowed to watch big matches. I say, “Listen, I don’t have a father anymore. I don’t want to lose my mum too, so you won’t watch the quarter-finals, the semi-finals or the finals,” Ronaldo had previously joked to Piers Morgan in an interview with Daily Mail.
Alternatively, the Al Nassr striker, who after scoring his penalty, raised his hands in apology to the fans after missing the penalty in extra time.
