Accused of sexual assault, the famous former French footballer admitted that he was an alcoholic

Former France striker Wissam Ben Yedder has admitted to being an alcoholic, and has been accused of performing a sexual act in front of a young woman in his car while drunk.

Ben Yedder is accused of driving a young woman, born in 2001, into an underground car park, attempting to masturbate in front of her and touching her thigh, reports RMC Sport.

The former Sevilla and Monaco forward, now 34, will stand trial for sexual assault on October 15 after being arrested earlier this month in Cap d’Ail, near Nice.

His defense insists the allegation of touching the woman’s thigh is “not a serious fact” and he was arrested in a drunken state between the night of Friday 6 September and the early hours of Saturday morning.

Ben Yedder is banned from leaving the Alpes-Maritimes region and is under police surveillance from 8pm to 6am, where he cannot go to any bars or clubs and is not allowed to approach his victim assumed.

He must also report to the police station twice a week until the trial.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Nice and the Attorney General requested that Ben Yedder be kept in custody until the trial, however, the investigative body decided that he should not be under judicial supervision until then.

Ben Yedder allegedly attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting as part of his rehabilitation and said he hoped to recover and also visited a psychologist.

The striker last played for the French national team (19 games, three goals) in June 2022. He has made a career in Toulouse, Sevilla and Monaco, where he scored 259 goals in 513 games.

The experienced footballer was previously sentenced to six months in prison by a Spanish court for tax evasion and he and his brother were previously accused of sexually harassing two women. /Football Match Up/
